Board of Selectmen

Tax Classification Hearing

Mark P. Cullinan, Chairman, Joshua A. Antrim, Vice Chairman

Eugene Canty, Recording Secretary, Antonio Barletta, Town Administrator

The Nahant Board of Selectmen will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday September 20, 2023 at 6:30pm via Zoom on the issue of Tax Classification. Full Zoom Details listed at the end of this announcement.

The purpose of the Hearing is to allow tax payers the opportunity to present their views on whether or not Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Open Space, and Personal Property should be taxed with one rate for all property classes or to use different tax rates for different classes of property. The Hearing will include a presentation by the Town Assessor and Board of Assessors.

At the conclusion of the Public Hearing the Board of Selectmen shall determine whether or not “one” tax rate shall be applied for the Fiscal Year 2024 tax rate. Currently the Town taxes at a single tax rate for all property classes. In addition, the Board of Selectmen will determine whether or not to allow exemptions for small commercial businesses and owner-occupied residential properties. All concerned taxpayers are encouraged to attend to present their views orally or in writing.

If there are questions about the hearing, please contact Sheila Hambleton in the Assessor’s Office at 781-581-0212.
