SPECIAL ELECTION JUNE 24, 2026

The Town of Nahant will have a Special Election on Wednesday June 24, 2026 at the Nahant Town Hall. Polls open from 7:00am – 8:00pm

Absentee Voting and Vote By Mail are available. Send a request via Email to ddunfee@nahant.org with your name and address.

Vote Absentee: If you are going to be out of Town on June 24th, there is Absentee Voting by Mail and Absentee Voting In Person at the Town Clerk’s Office. Last day for Absentee Voting In Person is Tuesday, June 23, 2026 @ 12 noon.

There will be two (2) ballot questions:

  1. Shall the Town of Nahant be allowed to assess an additional $1,000,000 in real estate and personal property taxes for the purpose of funding the operating budgets of the Town and Public Schools for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026?
  2. Shall the Town of Nahant approve the charter amendment proposed by the 2026 Annual Town Meeting to change the posting of the Annual Town Meeting Warrant from fourteen (14) days to seven (7) days?

What is Included in the $1M Operating Budget Override?

  • 4 new FTE Firefighters to the Fire Department
  • Increase health insurance budget to cover additional FTEs in Fire and School
  • Increase 0.37 FTE to 1.0 FTE ELA/Math Specialist in the School Department
  • Increase salaries of 5 non-union, non-contract Town employees to market rates
  • Increase department utility budgets by 4% over FY25 actual expenditures
  • Increase of $0.50/hour in part-time salaries of Council on Aging, Library, DPW staff
  • Increase professional development budget in School Department
  • Small increases in individual department operating budgets (primarily Purchased Services)
  • Transfer $56,000 to the Town’s stabilization fund
  • Increase debt payments by $48,243

Percent of $1M Operating by Override Category

How does a $1M Operating Budget Override Affect the FY27 Tax Rate?

If the $1M operating budget override is approved at ballot, it will increase the FY27 tax rate by $0.68 per $1,000 of your home value.  Based on a median single family home of $888,500, the estimated annual tax increase would be equal to $604.00.
