Town of Nahant Receives $34,590 Grant in Support of State Planning Assistance Program

NAHANT — Town Administrator Antonio Barletta is pleased to announce that the Town of Nahant has been awarded a $34,950 state grant to fund sustainable development projects.

The grant was made possible by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Land Use Planning Program. The grant program provides municipalities with critical funding to undertake public processes and hire technical expertise to mitigate and prepare for climate change impacts, improve land use practices, conserve, and sustainably develop land, and diversify housing choices.

Nahant will use the grant to engage the Metropolitan Area Planning Council for assistance with the Town’s Housing Production Plan and developing zoning that will comply with Multifamily Zoning for MBTA Communities regulations.

The grant is part of $1.2 million in federal grant funding awarded by the state to 26 municipal agencies for sustainable development projects.

“Thank you to the Baker-Polito Administration, which has consistently recognized the challenges facing smaller communities,” Barletta said. “This grant is critical to help Nahant work toward meeting its housing production goals.”

About The Planning Assistance Grant Program

The Planning Assistance Grant Program is part of the technical assistance offered to communities in support of the Baker-Polito Administration’s Housing Choice Initiative and to help municipalities comply with Section 3A of the Zoning Act (MBTA Communities).
