Affordable Housing Trust
The Town of Nahant is currently working towards the creation of a Municipal Affordable Housing Trust (MAHT).
At Town Meeting in May 2026 residents will have the opportunity to vote on the creation of this Trust.
But what does this all mean? According to the Census data, 45% of renters and more than 36% of homeowners are “cost burdened” in Nahant. This means they pay over 30% of their gross income on housing costs. About 40% of households in Nahant are eligible for affordable housing.
Establishing a housing trust will further build the local tools to address the housing needs of Nahant residents, such as creating smaller homes that seniors can “downsize” into and young people can afford to rent or own.
Below you will find documents explaining more about how the trust is established, how it will be organized and controlled, and the history behind it all.
We urge residents to stay informed about these important matters and make your vote count at Town Meeting.
