Nahant Reads Together, The Garden of Martyrs (Free and open to the public — masks required)

October 30 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Attending/Invited: Free and open to the public — masks required
We invite you to read The Garden of Martyrs, a murder tale based on actual events taking place in 1805-6. The main character, Father John Cheverus, has an unusual connection to Nahant. In addition, the book explores an early example (but far from the earliest example) of prejudice in the US. Books are available to check out (library card not needed), or the ebook version can be downloaded from Hoopla (card needed).
Today, a book discussion with Library Director Sharon Hawkes will examine the themes of the book, our country’s history of prejudice, and Nahant’s connection to Father Cheverus.
