Nahant Reads Together, The Garden of Martyrs (Free and open to the public — masks required)
October 21, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Attending/Invited: Free and open to the public — masks required
We invite you to read The Garden of Martyrs, a murder tale based on actual events taking place in 1805-6. The main character, Father John Cheverus, has an unusual connection to Nahant. In addition, the book explores an early example (but far from the earliest example) of prejudice in the US. Books are available to check out (library card not needed), or the ebook version can be downloaded from Hoopla (card needed).
Author Michael C. White will meet with us to talk about his writing process and the theme of the book. He will take questions from the audience. He was the founder and former director of Fairfield University’s MFA Creative Writing Program, and has written 7 novel and countless essays and short stories. He has received the Connecticut Book Award, the Tuscany Prize, and has received starred reviews from Booklist and Publishers Weekly. His most recent essay is entitled, “What the Plague Can Teach Us about Ourselves.: https://www.awpwriter.org/magazine_media/writers_chronicle_view/4699/what_the_plague_can_teach_us_about_ourselves”
